
Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has been created for laying down science based standards for article of food and to regulate their manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import to ensure availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption.
There are three categories of FSSAI/Food License, depending upon the turnover of Food Business Operator:
£ FSSAI Basic License: Turnover up to ₹ 12 Lakh per annum.
£ FSAAI State License: Turnover above ₹ 12 Lakhs up to ₹ 20 Crore per annum.
£ FSSAI Central License: Turnover above ₹ 20 Crore per annum.
Who can apply for FSSAI Registration?
£ FBOs (Food Business Operators) with annual turnover of less than ₹ 12 Lakhs per annum,
£ Temporary Stall Vendors,
£ Any person who sells or manufactures food or food products,
£ People who distribute food in a social gathering or religious conventions (except caterers),
£ Small dealers dealing in food products,
£ Cottage Industries functioning as FBOs.
